Principle of weathering steel
After adding phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel and other trace elements into the steel, the steel surface will form a dense and highly adhesive protective film, which will prevent the corrosion from spreading and developing inward, and protect the substrate under the rust layer to slow down its corrosion rate. About 50 μ m～100 μ The m thick amorphous spinel oxide layer is dense and has good adhesion with the base metal. Because of the existence of this dense oxide film, it prevents oxygen and water in the atmosphere from infiltrating into the steel substrate, slows down the deep development of corrosion to steel materials, and greatly improves the atmospheric corrosion resistance of steel materials. Weather-resistant steel is a steel system that can be used thinly, exposed or simply coated to make products corrosion resistant, prolong life, save labor, reduce consumption, and upgrade. Features of weathering steel
It refers to low alloy structural steel with protective rust layer and atmospheric corrosion resistance, which can be used to manufacture steel structures such as vehicles, bridges, towers, containers, etc. Compared with ordinary carbon steel, weathering steel has better corrosion resistance in the atmosphere. Compared with stainless steel, weathering steel has only a small amount of alloy elements, such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, niobium, vanadium, titanium, etc. The total amount of alloy elements only accounts for a few percent, unlike stainless steel, which accounts for more than ten percent, so the price is relatively low.
Weathering steel manufacturing process
Weather-resistant steel generally adopts the process route of refined material feeding - smelting (converter, electric furnace - microalloying treatment - argon blowing - LF refining - low superheat continuous casting (feeding rare earth wire) - controlled rolling and controlled cooling. During smelting, scrap steel is added into the furnace along with the furnace charge, which is smelted according to the conventional process. After tapping, deoxidizer and alloy are added. After argon blowing, molten steel is immediately cast. The molten steel after argon blowing and temperature regulation is cast into slab by continuous casting machine. Due to the addition of rare earth elements in the steel, the weathering steel is purified and the content of inclusions is greatly reduced.
